Library Fines and Fees

Library fees 2

The Leatherby Libraries offers Document Delivery services free of charge to Brandman patrons. This means that students, staff, and faculty can request items that we own and items that we borrow via interlibrary loan (ILL), and have them sent directly to their home or office. This is a free service; however, there are a few instances in which your library account may be charged: overdue books, damaged books, and lost books.

In the case of overdue materials, there are different fees depending on the type of material borrowed, but all overdue fees cap at a $10.00 maximum. This means that the most you can be charged in overdue fees for a single item is $10.00, even if you returned it a year late (Of, course, we don’t want you to keep it for an entire year!).

For books we own, the fine is $0.25 a day for each day overdue. Videos, CDs, and DVDs are assessed $1.00 each day overdue. ILL books are also fined $1.00 for each day overdue, so if you return a Leatherby Libraries book and an ILL book 2 days late, you will be charged $0.50 for the Leatherby Libraries’ book, but $2.00 for the ILL book.

You can also be charged if you return a book to us, but it is damaged. Sometimes, books are returned with broken binding, torn pages, water damage, etc. These book fees are assessed on a case by case basis. You may be charged as little as $5.00 or as much as the cost of replacing the book, depending on the extent of the damage.

Finally, if you have a book that you never returned, the library will charge you the full cost of the book, along with a replacement and processing fee. The charge to replace a book can vary, depending on the cost of the item in question.

You can log into your account at any time to check on due dates and current fines and fees. Simply go the library homepage and click on “My Account.”

As always, if you have any questions about fees and fines, please contact your Brandman staff. You can also see the full fines policy on the Brandman University Library Borrowing Policies and Procedures page.
